About the Market

The Archangel Marketplace is Free and Open to the Public.

It is a Grass-Roots, Ecumenical Outreach Ministry dedicated to sharing the beauty of Christian art, music and literature.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This summer, in conjunction with the Canadian Archdiocesan Assembly of the Orthodox Church in America being convened at the University of Victoria, All Saints of Alaska Orthodox Church is hosting an ecumenical marketplace and is inviting Victoria’s churches to partner, to participate, to attend and to support this grass-roots ministry composed of Christian businesses, non-profit associations, artists, artisans and craftspeople, to the glory of God and our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The roster of vendors and exhibitors is growing, and currently includes Koinonia Books & Gifts (also handling the book sales for Conciliar), St. John of Sochava Liturgical Supply House, Conciliar Press, Anaphora Press, All Saints of North America Monastery, St. Maria Outreach Centre, All Saints of Alaska Orthodox Church, KAIROS, VIDEA, and a number of Christian artists and artisans, and a fund-raising table for the University of Victoria Catholic Students Association.

Related special events to date include a talk by Master Iconographer Heather McKean on The Theological Language of Icons, book signings by local authors Rev. Dr. W. C. Tan (Memoirs) and Bev Cooke (Royal Monastic: Princess Ileana of Romania and Keeper of the Light: St. Macrina the Elder, Grandmother of Saints); a two-lecture presentation (ticket purchase required) by Dr. Gabor Maté (The God-Shaped Hole – Addictions and Self-Harming Behaviour); the debut performance and cd-release of Eirene, a new Byzantine choral ensemble, and music under the direction of  Bambie Maree, Music Director at Church of Our Lord and co-cordinator for the Downtown Churches Association for the monthly Taizé services.

The Archangel Marketplace is at the University of Victoria, Student Union Building, Michele Pujol Room, on the plaza, Ring Road. Monday – Friday, July 26 – 30; hours each day are 12 Noon – 7 pm, and admission is free. It is also wheelchair-accessible. Transit stops near the door, and several parking lots are nearby.

As Co-ordinator of the Archangel Marketplace, I am asking for your support and assistance in publicizing this outreach event by encouraging your family in faith to attend and participate, and also to extend the welcome to include people who are seeking or are un-churched, that they may be brought closer to the light of Christ. Posters and handouts will be available the first two weeks, of July, to be delivered to all churches that express support. The Archangel Marketplace is also being advertised through the media.  Look for our ad in the July issue of BC Christian News.
